Bestway Cement Limited (BCL) is Pakistan’s largest cement manufacturer with an annual production capacity of 10.8 million tonnes. Bestway Cement Limited inaugurated its sixth production line with 6000 tonnes per day capacity at Farooqia Plant. A colorful and grand ceremony was held at the plant premises to mark the occasion, honoured by presence of Minister of Commerce, Mian Misbah ur Rehman as guest of honour. The inaugural event was attended by Chinese Delegates from partner company Sinoma along with several other foreign and local dignitaries.
The project to install this production line took 14 months that is a record time to date. The core team members were senior industry professionals at Bestway that lead this project by modern practices and continual capacity building of its dedicated team. For capacity development of its staff, Bestway provides hands-on exposure along with class room style trainings at all its plants enabling engineers to learn about state of the art technology, maintenance practices and world class standards adhered at Bestway.
Bestway is pioneer in establishing Pakistan’s first Waste Heat Recovery Power Plant (WHRPP) at a cost of US$47 million. It is one of the only companies in the industry with WHRPP efficiently working at all of its plants reducing dependency on the National Grid.
While addressing the guests at the inauguration ceremony, Bestway Group’s CEO, Mr. Zameer Choudrey said that the company is on its way to becoming the leader in water conservation as BCL will be the first ones in the country to employ the Air Cooled Condenser Systems instead of the conventional water cooled systems. They are also the only ones to start rain harvesting through construction of big rain harvesting reservoirs in order to reduce dependence on underground water. Mr. Choudrey stressed that in doing so others will follow them and together they will be able to reduce the stress on ever depleting water resources of our country.
The new production line is part of BCL’s efforts to enhance production capacity and staff capabilities. Bestway takes pride in being able to produce the widest range of innovative products according to local market demands as well as international clients and are well aware of the impact that CPEC projects will have, resulting in exponential growth in cement demand in the coming years in Pakistan.
Bestway is the largest exporter of cement to Afghanistan and India earning almost US$53 million per annum in foreign exchange for the country.
Bestway is the only market player in the cement industry which has a dedicated environment department lead by and consisting of experienced environmental resources. This department has been assigned the task to make sure that the operations of BCL are not only within the applicable national environmental quality standards but also complies with international standards. Bestway’s plants follow a comprehensive plan to keep their plants green with extensive annual plantation while having thousands of olive, citrus and other fruit plants in their orchards at each plant location.
The minister of commerce, Mian Misbah Ur Rehman, appreciated the efforts of Bestway Group for investing into Pakistan and bringing the much needed foreign investment. He acknowledged that Bestway is amongst the largest overseas investor in Pakistan and the largest contributor towards the national exchequer.
Later the guest of honour, Mian Misbah ur Rehman (Minister of Commerce) and Sir. Mohammad Anwer Pervez (Chairman Bestway Group) jointly unveiled the plaque to inaugurate the new production line. He distributed shields to the member of the project team. The ceremony concluded by word of thanks from the Chairman and presentation of memento to the guest of honour.
